Daughters of God--You Have What it Takes!

Fay A. Klingler

Review

A Daruma is a popular doll sold in Japan. It has no limbs, is almost round except for a flat, weighted base, and the whites of the eyes have no pupils. When the Daruma is purchased, the buyer establishes a goal and paints in the left eye. When the goal is realized, the other eye is painted. The Daruma teaches dedication and persistence-to stay focused on a particular goal and never give up. Daughters of God, You Have What it Takes! begins by telling about the Daruma as it encourages sisters, young and old, to set and seek to fulfill lifetime goals. "You accept the challenges, and with faith, you go about defining personal standards and priorities that distinguish you as a woman of character."

Thoughout its pages, readers are reminded that "you are not on this earth at this time by fate or coincidence. You are here because you have what it takes!" Comforting counsel is given to young women, to young mothers, to mothers of teens, to grandmothers, and to those who have lived their long lives and endured almost all of life's challenges. They all are reminded that "you are a daughter of God and He loves you." One of the sweetest aspects of the pamphlet are the prayerful requests it contains, with tender replies from on High suggested, based on beloved scriptural passages.

From lace-trimmed, to toddler coveralls, to bright flowered skirts and teen platform shoes, your life unfolds. As a young woman, you set lifetime goals, looking at the exciting possibilities, filled with the drama of being female. Confident, you're sure you can handle the adventures ahead. But experience teaches that meeting your goals may take more than you thought. Surprising setbacks are a frustration. You accept the challenge, nevertheless. And with faith, you go about defining personal standards and priorities that distinguish you as a woman of character . . . most days.

You're a risktaker, giving love in the hope it will be returned. And most of the time, you extend that love even when you're hurt or disappointed. But some days your heart aches for the choices you've made, and you become paralyzed by fear, sadness, or the overwhelming feeling of your inability to achieve. Life seems harsh, and the world cold. Outside influences bombard you with "quick fix" ideas. Rejecting them, you turn to the Lord. "How can I do it?" you cry out in prayer. "How can I be what You expect me to be?" And in the process of humbly asking for help, you're reminded you are a daughter of God and He loves you. You are not on this earth at this time by fate or coincidence. You are here now because you have what it takes.

He gave you the power of discernment to perceive truth, find righteous solutions for whatever confronts you, and succeed. A whisper enters your mind. "Every day I watch over you. Let Me be your guide. I will sustain you."
